GBC OptiMass 9600 ICP Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer

Simultaneous benchtop ICP-MS incorporating an orthogonal time-of-flight mass analyzer and controlled by an external computer operating Windows®  based software.  Part No. 99-2155-03

System Description:

RF Generator

Solid state 27.12 MHz generator. Computer controlled from 500 W to 1500 W with auto tuning. Auto-start from keyboard.

Torch Adjustment

Computer control of X-Y-Z position to ± 0.1 mm of induction coil and torch for optimal analytical positioning relative to the sampler.

Torch

Low flow, low power, single piece quartz torch. (<12 L/min argon typical).

Argon Flows

Individual gas flows under computer control. Mass flow regulation on all gas lines.

Sample Introduction

Concentric glass nebulizer with thermostatted glass cyclonic spray chamber.  Improved sample compartment flexibility during routine maintenance.

Peristaltic Pump

Computer controlled four channel 12-roller pump, at 0-60 rpm. Auto fast pump setting for rapid washout.

Interface and Ion Optics

Easily removable three cone system. Water cooled interface. Cone access via motorized positioning of torch and work coil. Gate valve allowing cone extraction without breaking vacuum.  Auto-optimisation of all instrument parameters.

Clean Vacuum System

Three cone interface, vacuum system with differential pumping utilizing maintenance free turbomolecular pumps and rotary vane backing pump. Automatic sequencing and control. Interlock to prevent damage to pumping system and high voltage elements in event of plasma failure. Turbomolecular pumps protected from overload conditions.

Mass Analyzer and Detector System

Orthogonal acceleration time of flight mass spectrometer. Mass range of 1 to 260 amu. 30,000 full spectra per second ion extraction speed. Automatic detector protection and user selectable matrix ions elimination with SMARTGATE ion blanker. Discrete dynode multiplier detector for extended lifetime. 1 GHz detection system sampling rate. Dual TDC/TR detection system for extended dynamic range.

Semi Quantitative Analysis

Full mass range Semi Quantitative analysis from factory set response function.

Retrospective Semi Quantitative Analysis

As the OptiMass 9600 always takes ALL data from mass 1 to 260 amu, Semi Quantitative analysis can be done retrospectively allowing user to quantify previously uncalibrated data.

Sample Fingerprinting

Includes spectrum overlay and statistical comparison of spectra to indicate how closely the spectra match.

Auto-optimisation

The auto optimization software will optimize over 22 parameters including torch position, nebuliser flow, beam energy and other focusing parameters. Also any isotope mass can be selected for optimisation on either sensitivity or resolution. Minimum and maximum parameter values can be set as well as parameter step size during optimisation. Stabilisation time can also be set to allow for settling of gas flow parameters. The comprehensive results panel supplies a complete report of the entire optimisation process (if required).

Software

Windows®  based operating software. Modular design with Method, Samples, Analysis, Instrument Control and Results modules accessible from any part of the software. External and isotope dilution calibration. Correction of interferences and measurement with internal standards. Measurement of transient signals. Isotope ratio measurement. Password protection on methods and results. Complete quality control protocols including check samples, spike recoveries, calibration failure and QC limits. Unlimited number of samples in a run. Comprehensive report generation. Context sensitive, hyper text help. Complete computer control of instrument parameters. Any one of over 600 instrument parameters can be user selected to create a customized Status panel. This Status panel can then be saved and accessed by a simple click of an icon. These panels can be used for displaying data, determining the instrument status at any time or for immediate instrument diagnostic purposes.
